Our Week 28 Top Logistics Stories
It’s week 28 and here are three stories you should be updating your customers and prospects on this week. They need your expertise!
Shippers may not be aware of what’s occurring or its importance, so offering your assistance and insights will help you build a stronger relationship with them.
Knowing what’s going on in the market is only half the battle. Your customers need to be told what to do about it and they should hear that from you.
1. We’re in the middle of another big week for tariff news. President Trump announced an extension, along with new, reciprocal tariffs for a long list of countries, effective in August. The highest is 40%. His intention for a steep copper tariff was also announced. Chances are, there will be more news coming that impacts importers, so you should keep your customers informed about what’s happening as it unfolds.
2. The de minimis exemption is something a lot of people do not understand, but it has an impact on their daily lives. Those of us in logistics know. After months of back and forth, it’s finally met its fate in the new Tax Bill signed into law. Officially, on July 1, 2027, it will be no more. The impact will be a higher cost of importing goods valued at under $800.
3. Even though the US trucking market has been in a years-long recession, many cost inputs for the industry have steadily increased, many by over 50% since 2019. This has added pressure to carriers, and increased many expenses beyond the cost of inflation, including those for equipment like trucks and trailers, driver benefits, and tolls.
Of course, these stories are just a small part of what’s going on in the supply chain space right now. Updating your clients on how this and other information is relevant to their business is a way to provide more value and strengthen your relationships.
