Our Week 34 Top Logistics Stories

It’s week 34 and here are three stories you should be updating your customers and prospects on this week. They need your expertise!

Shippers may not be aware of what’s occurring or its importance, so offering your assistance and insights will help you build a stronger relationship with them.

Knowing what’s going on in the market is only half the battle. Your customers need to be told what to do about it and they should hear that from you.

1.      Two commodity-specific tariffs dominate the trade news this week, with little activity on specific country tariffs. The announcement that steel and aluminum tariffs would now apply to over 400 new products caught many importers and customs experts off guard. There are concerns over the complexity of administering the duties.

2.      Reviews from EU member states have been mixed regarding the EU-U.S. trade agreement. With no progress on several vital details since the original agreement framework was announced in July, skeptics are wondering how long until the deal is actually implemented, if at all.

3.      The national average weekly price per gallon of diesel gasoline declined, for the fourth consecutive week, according to data issued today by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. On an annual basis, the national average is up 2.5 cents, down from a 5-cent annual difference, for the week of August 11.

Of course, these stories are just a small part of what’s going on in the supply chain space right now. Updating your clients on how this and other information is relevant to their business is a way to provide more value and strengthen your relationships.
