Our Week 35 Top Logistics Stories

It’s week 35 and here are three stories you should be updating your customers and prospects on this week. They need your expertise!

Shippers may not be aware of what’s occurring or its importance, so offering your assistance and insights will help you build a stronger relationship with them.

Knowing what’s going on in the market is only half the battle. Your customers need to be told what to do about it and they should hear that from you.

1.      Ocean rates are falling fast, with declines from Asia to N. America by as much as 70%. Rates had spiked earlier this summer due to a pre-tariff surge, but volumes have slowed considerably since the reciprocal tariffs took effect in early August. Barring any significant tariff changes or improvement in market conditions, the trend of low rates may continue.

2.      The most recent Trucking Conditions Index reading came in at -1.83, down from the previous month’s 3.56. This is the lowest reading in 2025. Officials said that the decline was primarily due to freight rates and fuel prices, adding that they expect trucking conditions to be much closer to neutral during the second half of 2025.

3.      Many countries are pausing mail shipments to the US due to fresh tariffs imposed by the U.S. government. The mail services claim they will stop accepting parcels that include consumer goods for sale or gifts worth over $100 from Aug. 27, after the U.S. revoked its tariff exemption on lower-value packages from across the world.

Of course, these stories are just a small part of what’s going on in the supply chain space right now. Updating your clients on how this and other information is relevant to their business is a way to provide more value and strengthen your relationships.
