Our Week 36 Top Logistics Stories

It’s week 36 and here are three stories you should be updating your customers and prospects on this week. They need your expertise!

Shippers may not be aware of what’s occurring or its importance, so offering your assistance and insights will help you build a stronger relationship with them.

Knowing what’s going on in the market is only half the battle. Your customers need to be told what to do about it and they should hear that from you.

1.      President Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs are illegal, according to a US appeals court. They remain in place, however, until at least mid-October, giving time for the case to appealed to the Supreme Court. This continues the uncertainty that countries and importers have been dealing with for months. This step was probably inevitable and is at least gets us a little closer to clarity. One hopes at least.

2.      Peak holiday shipping season is almost here. A clear sign of that is the announcement from UPS of its annual peak demand surcharges that go into effect from fall through January. The announcement aligns closely with the higher FedEx fees it announced a few weeks back. Other upcoming announcements will be even more impactful, those being the annual general rate increases that will go into effect for 2026.

3.      If you are looking for signs of life in the US manufacturing sector, the trend is not your friend. The report’s benchmark reading, the PMI, came in at 48.7 (a reading of 50 or higher indicates growth), up 0.7% from July, contracting, at a slower rate, for the sixth consecutive month, with the overall economy growing, at a faster rate, for the 64th consecutive month.

Of course, these stories are just a small part of what’s going on in the supply chain space right now. Updating your clients on how this and other information is relevant to their business is a way to provide more value and strengthen your relationships.
